“John, is there anybody you don’t know or who doesn’t know you? I’m astounded by the contacts and relationships you have. It’s unreal.”
Actually it is real. Very. Real.
That was a comment my personal trainer (and subscriber in my membership community) Shelby Turcotte made to me the other day. We were discussing his forthcoming book and some endorsements he was seeking for it. So I quickly teed up a few introductions for him with some experts in a couple different industries.
My greatest asset or super power (which I don’t take lightly or give away) is my deep network. I’ve built it over decades as a coach, ESPN Radio broadcaster and now as a professional speaker/author.
A lot of people whine and complain because they think success is about “who you know” not “what you know”.
They think it’s incredibly unfair and resent people who appear to get ahead because of who they know. And they’d be dead wrong.
One of the best and fastest ways to get ahead is to surround yourself with talented people playing at a high level. But you still need to know what you’re doing. You need the “who” and the “what”… Those are the rules of the game.
In baseball, you have the make the trip around all the bases to score. Not two, three or even five bases— Four. Those are the rules. So the manager surrounds himself with talent, and crafts a game plan to get runner on base and advance them. Game in and game out.
Your business is no different. What are your goals and what talent will it take to achieve them? Figure out who you need to get to know to help you win and how you can get to know them.
The members of my online community Yesterday’s Underdogs know the value and power of relationships. I pride myself on being able to make introductions for them to my deep network. A network that includes media personalities, world-class coaches, authors, lawyers, CEOs, designers, broadcasters, and realtors. Plus a list too long to mention of my personal contacts in a variety of industries from entertainment to sports and everything in between. Plus my underdogs have been a source of referrals and business for one another.

P.S. If your only interest is making money and you have no desire to help others or you’re simply looking for short cuts—This is NOT for you.
