Instead of an article, today I’m going to sell you on why you should listen to the newest episode of The Coach Bru Podcast. It transcends sport and speaks to the heart of leadership.
It’s an in-depth discussion with my long-time friend and colleague Steve Colfer. Steve is the head coach of the 2019 National Champion Cabrini University Men’s Lacrosse Team.
His teams have won an impressive 19 consecutive conference championships and had 18 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Colfer is a 13-time Coach of the Year and owns a commanding 284-72 career record. His .798 winning percentage ranks among the top 10 coaches of all-time in all Divisions of the NCAA.
On a personal note, I’ve known Steve for 23 years but feel like I’ve learned more about him as a leader this year than I did the other 22 put together. Let me explain…
Some impressive and very admirable things that Steve has quietly done for many years in the dark have come to the light thanks to the media attention thrust upon his team en route to their National Championship this season.
I’m specifically talking about a leadership strategy he uses called The Power of Hope, which is why that’s what I titled the podcast.
Note: I’d bet the farm 99.9% of leaders DON’T do what he does. You’ll have to listen to get the details, I promise that power of hope nugget alone will be WELL worth your time.
We also discuss how leadership is all about letting go, giving your team ownership of the process and paying it forward as a leader.
So anyway about the podcast…
