“Your daily content is at another level and I love it.
How do you do it every single day?”
That was an email from reader and mental toughness expert Dr. Rob Bell (who’s books I HIGHLY recommend).
I just refuse to break the chain. Let me explain…
It’s a little productivity strategy I learned from Jerry Seinfeld. Indirectly, I should say…
Brad Isaac is a software developer and years ago when the television show Seinfeld was in it’s early days Jerry Seinfeld was still a touring stand-up comic. Isaac was doing an open mic night in a club when he met Seinfeld back stage. They spoke before Jerry went on stage and Isaac asked him “Do you have any tips for a young aspiring comic?”
Seinfeld told him that the way to become a better comic was to write better jokes and the way to write better jokes was to write every day. He even shared a strategy he uses.
*Note: This isn’t a comedy strategy or even a writing strategy so much as it’s a great motivational strategy to maintain any sort of habit.
Here is what he shared with him…
Seinfeld gets a big wall calendar that has an entire year on one page and he hangs it in a highly visible place he will see repeatedly. For each day that he does writing he puts a big red X over that date in pen on the calendar. After a couple of days you’re on a streak and you’ve got a chain going. As you get a couple of weeks crossed out on the calendar you’re motivated not to break the chain. Your responsibility is to not allow yourself to break the chain.
It’s how Seinfeld became a #StadiumStatus comic. It’s also how I’ve written 11 books in the past 10 years. And now how I email daily. No matter what happens I don’t break the chain.
It’s the whole concept of incremental gains. Small daily action compounds over time.
But to have a streak, you have to get started and every streak starts with one.
You can use this strategy for anything from exercising and nutrition to sales calls and reading. The goal is to make small, consistent daily progress towards your goal.
What’s the #1 action you can take that would make the biggest impact on your business if you did it every single day?
In my humble but highly accurate opinion, the #1 daily action you should implement right away is called R.D.O.P. That’s a strategy “straight outta” my book $tadium $tatu$. R.D.O.P. has been an absolute game changer for folks in my membership community. At this point, it’s practically a license to print money…
Ex. Brenda Fontaine took her company’s sales volume from $50 million to $100 million in two years by incorporating this strategy every single day.
