Two years ago our family got a new puppy. When the day came for us to take home our headstrong little pup Quincy, the breeder warned us that labs are hunting dogs and whenever little Quincy picked up a scent or saw something that interested him, he’d chase it.
The breeder advised that if Quincy ever runs away from us, don’t chase him. You want to get his attention but run the other way– away from him so that he will chase you.
That isn’t just good advice for dealing with dogs, it’s a great metaphor for your business as well…
Because when you chase something, the natural reaction is for it to run away.
When you’re constantly chasing prospects, you’re viewed as needy. And there’s nothing that will repel a prospect or kill a deal faster than neediness.
The solution:
Crunch the numbers. There’s only one YOU that offers the unique value you provide. And there are 7.5 billion other people on the planet. Talk about a paradigm shift…
Its basic economics. There’s less supply of you than there are people who have a demand for the problem you solve. As a result your value increases.
The numbers are always in your favor, so no one prospect can ever make or break your business.
Attracting always beats chasing.
The best thing you can do is to make your brand so unique and attractive, prospects seek you out and chase you. It’s the core principle within my best-selling book Stadium Status.
