In case you missed it, I offered President Trump an internship before I left for vacation. You can watch the video here on BruTube.
The old saying went “Marketing Beats Advertising”. Well, Your’s Bruly is taking it a step further because today “Attention Trumps Marketing”.
Between the 24 hour news cycle, the ability for people to fast forward their DVR past advertisements and people’s skepticism when it comes to clicking on any type of online ad… you better “do it different” when it comes to reaching your audience. Which is why online content is so valuable today.
Online traction is gained far faster than marketing in old media, like print, radio or television. If it catches people’s attention, it can be spread instantly, at no cost, with no friction. (Look no further than the popularity of Tik Tok videos with kids)
Which illustrates my point, attention trumps marketing. Being entertaining, playful, fun, and interesting will always beat traditional methods. Why? Because the traditional methods all look the same; which has essentially trained consumers to ignore all of it.
We are living in the attention economy today.
The average attention span in 2000 was 12 seconds and in 2015 it’s dwindled down to 8 seconds. The average attention span of a goldfish is 9 seconds. Think about that.
And as hard as getting someone’s attention is, keeping it is even harder…
- 80% of visitors abandon a website in less than 5 seconds.
- 55% of webpage views get less than 15 seconds of attention.
- The average person sees 5000 marketing messages per day.
And sadly, the Kardashians, cat videos and pictures of food are stealing your customer’s limited attention.
A wealth of information has created a poverty of attention.
As a leader it’s your job to win it back.
Simply put, the same old stuff ain’t working. You need to be different or be invisible. And be boring at your own peril.
Today more than ever you’ve got to be willing to push the envelope.
Is everyone going to love my video offering Trump an internship? No. But I’m not for everybody.
News Flash… neither are you. Nobody is.
You have to be remarkable. And I mean that literally, how can you get your audience to remark about what you’re doing?
Are you creating a memorable experience? One that elicits remarks.
How can you make your audience smile or laugh?
Okay that’s enough food for thought on a Monday.
Want a brand that stands out from the crowd as remarkable, get this book and $479. in FREE bonuses at a fraction of that price.
