Two days ago, a reader emailed me a question.
“If Stadium Status means reaching the pinnacle of your profession well then, what’s bigger than Stadium Status? I seriously doubt you have an answer so, 2nd question: What do I win for stumping you? Thanks, James”
Yesterday I took James to school explaining that Garth Brooks is the one and only thing bigger than Stadium Status. (Here’s that article)
And today his schooling about Garth continues. You and your business can benefit from Brooks example as well…
I’ve compiled dozens of examples and anecdotes illustrating why Brooks is the entrepreneur, entertainer and human being I respect most. I could write an entire book on the subject.
(By the way, Garth if you’re reading this… I’d love to interview you for that book. Have your people call my people. Actually, since I don’t have people, you can just call me.)
Here are three of my favorite reasons he’s the one and only thing bigger than Stadium Status.
- In 1996 Garth Brooks signed autographs for 23 straight hours at Fan Fair in Nashville (now known as CMA Fest). Note: This is NOT an urban legend. He verified it in a radio interview with Bobby Bones last year. As legend has it, Brooks didn’t even ask for a break to go to the bathroom or to eat or sleep for that matter. Talk about being committed to your fans (customers).
Are you willing to arrive early and stay late to help your customers? Even after it’s beyond inconvenient for you.
- On a personal note, what I respect and admire most about the man are his priorities. Brooks retired at the height of his popularity in 2001 to stay home and spend more time with his family as his children were growing up.
Eight years later in 2009 he began performing again on weekends only in Las Vegas at the Wynn Casino. Part of that deal was a private jet to make sure he wouldn’t miss his daughter’s soccer games on Saturday mornings in Oklahoma.
Why? Because you don’t get that time back. Ever.
I’m in the midst of that right now. His example is what inspired me to dramatically reduce my speaking schedule so I don’t miss my daughters’ field hockey and basketball games. I remember one of my colleagues telling me when my kids were younger that they were too young to even know I was gone that much. I said “Yeah but I will know.”
If someone as Stadium Status as Garth Brooks can make that a priority, none of us have any excuse not to do the same.
- Garth recognizes the people behind the scenes who contribute to his success. This was never more evident than in 1994 when Capitol records decided to present Brooks with a plaque celebrating 50 million records sold. He insisted that the ceremony take place at the company’s manufacturing plant so he could meet every employee, thank them for their hard work and treat them all to lunch. How many other recording artists do you think have done that for the blue collar workers behind the scenes?
You could say “That’s easy for Brooks. After all he’s rich and successful so he can afford to do that sort of thing.”
And you would be wrong…
It’s actually the exact opposite.
The fact that he’s thoughtful and caring enough to do that sort of thing is precisely the reason he’s so successful.
How are you recognizing the unsung heroes behind the scenes who contribute to your success?
Success leaves clues. And whether you enjoy country music or not, you can apply what Garth Brooks does to get better at what you do.
With that in mind, there are a few other lessons from the man who is bigger than Stadium Status, right here in you guessed it… Stadium Status. https://coachbru.com/product/stadium-status-taking-business-big-time/
